While not as popular as red vein strains, some of the best strains that we have encountered have been of this variety.
And although there is some variation, green vein kratom tend to be moderate in effects — a powerful blend between painkilling and energetic effects.
The most notable effects of green vein kratom are: strong pain relief, anti-stress and anti-anxiety, mood-lifting and sense of well-being, and energy. However, the energetic effects are can vary between different green vein kratom strains.

The strongest and most widely-used green vein kratom strains are: Green Malaysian, Green Vein Borneo (GVB), Green Vein Indo, and Green Vein Bali, and Green Maeng Da. Of these, Green Borneo, Indo and Bali are sedating, while Malaysian and Maeng Da have more energetic effects.
Right after the years of this plant being labeled as “Super” and “Premium”, Malaysian was the original popular green variety.
Green Malaysian Effects
There is good reason for this too, as Malaysian kratom strains combine both mild energy with good pain relief, and are quite long lasting.
Additionally, many have stated it to be one of the best nootropic strains along with green vein Thai. For these reasons, it is still a very popular.
While more sedating than its malaysian cousin, green Borneo tends to be quite an impressive strain. In fact, borneo kratom strains as a whole tend to be quite potent.
Green Borneo Effects
This strain combines strong pain relief with just enough mental stimulation to make it a very lucid experience as well as a very low incidence of side effects.
Of all kratom strains I have tried, the most powerful was a green borneo of this variety. However, not all batches are equally potent.
Like it’s Borneo counterpart, Indo has remarkable painkilling capabilities.
However, the quality of effects seems to be somewhat different; while hard to describe, the effects of Indo tend to be less subtle and anxiolytic than Borneo, but equally powerful in effect.
Green Indo Effects
The quality of green vein kratom can vary from strain to strain, but all are valuable, especially for those who want to get the best of both worlds when it comes to kratom and effects.
Below, we’ll go over the unique qualities of green vein strains and how to get the most from them.
Although the painkilling effects of this variety of kratom typically aren’t as prominent as they are in red veins, for some reason, a few of the most effective painkilling strains that we have used have been of this variety.
While there is some speculation to why this is, it may be that this variety is more sensitive to growing conditions, as the potency seems fairly variable depending upon the region it is grown.
However, the primary reason green vein kratom is used for pain relief is that it tends to provide great effects without the sedation common in many red veins, making it very valuable during the day.
One of the effects fairly unique to this variety, though occasionally present in white veins, is its cognitive boosting effects.
Although there haven’t been many studies in this area, there is a variety of anecdotal evidence and reports of greens enhancing focus, and even memory in some individuals.
Some of these strains include Riau, Malaysian, and Thai. While we don’t yet know the reason for this, hopefully further research will bring clarity.
Although stimulation in this variety of strains isn’t as apparent as it is in whites, it is definitely a strong component.
With many greens, they start out more stimulating and tend to become more sedating over time. However, this stimulation is rarely overpowering and tends to be more mental than physical in quality.
Something that we have found interesting is that these strains, especially green Malaysian, tend to be fairly long lasting in comparison to both white and red vein varieties of kratom.
There is some speculation that this is due to the plant’s stiffer cell walls, making it take longer to break down, though some suggest it is the higher amounts of mitragynine slowing the enzymes which process 7-hydroxymitragynine.
